Dental sealants are coatings that cover teeth to protect against cavities. This procedure is usually recommended for patients that are more prone to cavities. Some patients may have difficulty brushing all of their teeth and would, therefore, benefit from sealants. What is the procedure?

The application is fairly quick. First, the tooth is etched then dried. Next, the sealant coating is layered onto the tooth and hardened with a blue light. Patients can return to normal eating and drinking afterwards.

Will this be noticable?

Fortunately, dental sealants are white or clear. They are not noticeable when eating or speaking.

Are sealants only for children?

Sealants are available for children and adults as needed.

How long can they last?

They can last up to 10 years.

Is fluoride necessary after the treatment?

Patients may be recommended to use flouride to further protect their teeth from decay.

How else can I protect my teeth?

Continue brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing daily. Also, brush after meals when possible. And, of course, visit us for your routine dental exams and cleanings.
